Thandai Recipe This is an Indian cold drink which is popular in most of the Indian states and it is usually made at the occasion of holi or Maha shivratri. The key ingredients for making this drink is milk, dry fruits, poppy seeds, sugar, rose petals, saffron threads and some other basic ingredients. The taste and flavor of this thandai craves you for it and gives you relief by having only a glass of this drink.
Usually thandai is also selling in the stores too but I used to make it at home as the taste of homemade thandai is far better than the stores one. People usually make it at holi and as holi is about to coming soon, so here I am sharing my recipe of homemade delicious thandai. This holi, try this thandai and enjoy with your family.
Necessary Ingredients Required For Thandai Recipe
- Milk = 2 litres, full fat
- Sugar = 2 cups
- Almonds = 30 to 35, blanched and peeled
- Cashew nuts = 30, soaked
- Pistachios = 20 to 25
- Cinnamon stick = 1 inch piece
- Fennel seeds = 1/2 tsp
- Poppy seeds (khas khas) = 4 tbsp
- Melon seeds = 4 tbs
- Green cardamoms = 6 pods
- Black peppercorns = 10 to 12
- Saffron = few strands
- Rose petals = 25 to 30, dried
Instructions For Making It
Take a heavy bottom pan, add milk in it and bring it to a boil.
Peel off the blanched almonds and transfer them to a blender.
Also add soaked cashews, melon seeds, poppy seeds and pistachios in a blender jar. Further add 2 tbsp of warm milk in it. Blend them to make a smooth paste. Keep this paste aside.
Now in a dry jar, add dried rose petals, cinnamon sticks, fennel seeds, black peppercorns, green cardamom and grind it to make a fine powder from it.
In a boiling milk, add saffron strands and mix it. Then add sugar and mix it till sugar completely dissolves in milk.
Now add the prepared dry fruits paste and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on a medium to low flame by stirring it.
Furthermore, add ground powder in milk and stir well.
Finally, after cooking it for 2 minutes. Turn the flame off and let it cool at a room temperature. Then add some chopped dry fruits to make it more nutty and place it in a refrigerator for cooling.
Delicious thandai is now ready. Serve it chilled and enjoy.
