Tamarind Rice Recipe pulihora, puliyodarai or simply tamarind rice is a famous south Indian rice recipe which is really delicious in taste and easy to make. Basically there are many ways and variations of this recipe, today I am sharing one of the way from them to make it. They are spicy, sour and little bit sweet at one time. The main and key ingredient of this recipe is tamarind pulp. The other basic ingredients are added to the pulp and then half cooked rice are added to it. This rice recipe goes well for the lunch boxes or picnics as well. So let’s know how to make it.
Necessary Ingredients Required For Tamarind Rice
- Rice = 1 cup, 80% cooked
- Whole Red chilies = 3 to 4
- Asafoetida = a pinch
- Mustard seeds = 1 tsp
- Tamarind pulp = 40 gm
- Red chili powder = 1 tsp
- Split chickpea (chana dal) = 1 tbsp, boiled
- Urad dal = 1 tbsp, boiled
- Sugar = 1 tsp tsp
- Salt = as per taste
- Ghee = 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves = 7 to 8
- Groundnuts/peanuts = 2 tbsp
Instructions For Making It
Step 1
Firstly take a pan, add oil in it and heat it up.
Step 2
Then add curry leaves, peanuts, dry red chilies, asafoetida and mustard seeds. Le the splutter for a while.
Step 3
Then add boiled split chickpea and urad dal in it. Mix well and roast it with other ingredients for 5 minutes.
Step 4
Now add cooked rice in it and also add tamarind pulp. Mix well with gentle hands and make sure everything gets mixed well.
Step 5
Further add red chili powder, salt and sugar in it and combine each and everything evenly.
Step 6
Cover the lid and simmer the flame. Let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
Step 7
After the mentioned time, turn the flame off and transfer it to a serving bowl.
Finally, your delicious tamarind rice are now ready to serve. Serve them hot with chutney and raita. Enjoy.
