Onion Rice Recipe This is a delicious quick and easy recipe of rice which you can easily make for lunch. This onion rice goes perfect with raita, salad and chutney as well. If you have plain cooked rice left, then you can also make this recipe with them. I am boiling rice here as I have not leftover rice. The basic ingredients are needed to make this. Taste and flavor of onion makes this rice more delicious, aromatic and flavorful. The aroma of mint and coriander and the flavor also makes it a rich flavor and look. So let’s know how to make it.

Necessary Ingredients Required For Onion Rice Recipe

  • Rice = 2 cups, boil with some salt
  • Onion = 3, medium size, chop in slices
  • Green chili = 2, finely chopped
  • Ginger = 1 inch piece, grated
  • Coriander/parsley/cilantro = 2 tbsp, finely chopped
  • Mint leaves = 1 tbsp, finely chopped
  • Dry red chilies = 2
  • Mustard seeds = 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds = 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder = 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder = 1 tsp
  • Salt = as per taste
  • Lemon juice = 1 tbsp
  • Oil = 2 tbsp

Instructions For Making It

Step 1

Take a pan, add rice in it and add salt. Boil rice until they cooked 80%. Strain the water and keep them aside.

Step 2

Now take a pan, add oil in it and heat it up. Then add whole dry red chilies, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and grated ginger. Saute all the ingredients till they splutter.

Step 3

Then add chopped green chilies and onion. Saute onion till they turn golden in color. Also add salt in onion (remember that we have already added salt in rice so add salt as per the other ingredients only).

Step 4

Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder. Mix all the spices till the raw smell disappears.

Step 5

Cook them on a medium to low flame.

Step 6

Further add cooked rice in it and mix it till they evenly combine with the masala. Add chopped coriander and lemon juice. Give it a nice mix.

Step 7

Turn the flame on simmer and cover the lid. Cook for about a minute.

Finally, your delicious onion rice are ready to serve. Serve them hot with raita, salad and chutney. Enjoy.
