Lauki Chana Dal Sabzi Welcome back to the zayka recipe. Today I am making a very healthy and tasty dish of bottle gourd (lauki/dudhi). This lauki aur chana dal ki sabzi is not only delicious in taste but a very easy and quick recipe too. Most of the people don’t like bottle gourd but when you make it with this type, this will surely like by your family as well as kids too. You can make it in your lunch and can serve it with rice or chapati. So let’s know how to make it.
Ingredients Required For Lauki Chana Dal Sabzi
- Bottle gourd (lauki/doodhi) = 500 gm, chopped
- Bengal gram (chana dal) = 1/2 cup, soaked
- Tomato = 2, medium size, finely chopped
- Onion = 1, medium size, finely chopped
- Ginger and garlic paste = 1 tsp
- Red chili powder = 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder = 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder = 1 tsp
- Salt = as per taste
- Cumin seeds = 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds = 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida = a pinch
- Oil = 2 tbsp
- Water = as required
- Green coriander = 1 tbsp, finely chopped
Instructions For Making It
Wash chana dal well and soak it in water for 1 hour. Drain it and keep it aside.
Peel off the skin of bottle gourd, wash it well and chop it into small pieces.
In pressure cooker, add oil and heat it up.
Ones the oil gets heated, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds in it. Let them splutter for few seconds.
Now add chopped onion in it and saute till the onion turns into pinkish in color.
Add ginger and garlic paste, saute till the raw smell disappears.
Now add chopped tomatoes in it and cook till tomatoes becomes soft and mushy.
Further add all the spices like red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Mix all the spices well and a dash of water so that the spices gets cooked well.
Now add soaked dal in it and mix it.
After it, add chopped bottle gourd and mix it well.
Add 1.5 cup of water in it and cover the lid of the pressure cooker.
Bring 4 to 5 whistles in it and cook over medium flame.
Ones the mentioned whistles comes in it, turn the flame off and let the pressure release by itself.
Open the lid and check the consistency of the gravy, if it is not thick then cook it openly for 5 more minutes.
Finally add chopped coriander in it and serve it.
Your lauki chana dal sabzi is now ready to serve. Serve it hot with chapati or paratha or rice.
