Katlama Recipe | How To Make Peshawari Katlama

Katlama Recipe Today I am sharing the delicious recipe of Katlama. Katlama is a famous and popular peshawari (Pakistan) cuisine, this is made with all purpose flour, wheat flour. The dough is kneaded from the flours and then a thick batter is prepared by using egg, gram flour and other spices. This is really a delicious recipe which you can easily make at home. This takes a little bit time but the taste is all worth it. Let’s know how to make it.

Necessary Ingredients Required For Katlama Recipe

  • All purpose flour = 1/2 cup
  • Wheat flour = 1/2 cup
  • Gram flour = 1/2 cup
  • Coriander seeds = 1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds = 1/2 tbsp
  • Pomegranate seeds (anardana) = 1/2 tbsp
  • Red chili powder = 3 tsp
  • Garam masala powder = 1 tsp
  • Green gram (moong dal) = 1/4 cup, soaked
  • Salt = as per taste
  • Yellow food color = 1/2 tsp
  • Water = as required
  • Oil = for frying

Instructions For Making It In Simple Steps

Step 1

Take a mixing bowl, sieve all purpose flour and wheat flour in it. Add salt and 1 tbsp of oil. Mix it well.

Step 2

Gradually add water in it and knead a smooth dough from the flour and cover it by wet cloth. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.

Step 3

In other bowl, add egg and whisk it. Then add gram flour, red chili powder, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, salt, yellow food color and garam masala powder.

Step 4

Gradually add water and mix well till it turns into a thick paste.

Step 5

After 30 minutes, knead the dough ones again and grease your hands with oil.

Step 6

Take a portion from the kneaded dough, roll it into your palms and make a round ball with the dough.

Step 7

Spread some dry flour and flatten the ball by using rolling pin.

Step 8

Further add the prepared thick paste of gram flour. Spread it all over the flatten bowl.

Step 9

Then add some dry pomegranate seeds and green gram.

Step 10

Take a wok or a pan, add oil in it and heat it up. Ones the oil is heated, add this prepared katlama and fry it till it turns into golden brown in color. When it is fried well, take it out from the pan, and make all the katlama with the same procedure.

Your Katlama are ready to serve. Serve them hot with chutney or chhole. Enjoy.
