Jeera Aloo recipe – How to make jeera aloo

Jeera aloo is a typical Indian recipe, which is very appetizing yet simple recipe to make. In your busy hours or any guest arrival, you can easily make this jeera aloo within no time. You can also give it to your kids for lunch, as it is delicious in taste so they would definitely going to finish their lunch. Give them with paratha, they would love it. Let’s know how to make it.

Necessary ingredients required for jeera aloo recipe-

  • Potato = 500 gm, peeled off and chopped in cubes
  • Cumin seeds or jeera = 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder = 1/4 tsp
  • Salt = 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder = 1/4 tsp
  • Dry fenugreek leaves or kasuri methi = 1/4 tsp
  • Green coriander = 1 tsp, chopped
  • Oil = 2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida or hing = a pinch
  • Black mustard seeds = 1/4 tsp
  • Water = 1 cup

Method of making-

Step 1

Take a pan, pour oil in it and heat it up.

Step 2

Now add asafoetida, cumin seeds and mustard seeds in oil. crackle them for few seconds.

Step 3

After crackling them, add chopped potatoes and saute in oil for 2 minutes.

Step 4

Now add salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder. Mix it well by stirring it with potatoes.

Step 5

Now add water as required and mix it well. Give a boil in water.

Step 6

Now cover the lid of pan after one boil and cook it on a high flame for 5 minutes.

Step 7

After 5 minutes, turn the flame low and let it cook for 5 to 8 minutes.

Step 8

Check whether Potatoes gets soft, if not then cook it for 2 more minutes.

Jeera aloo is ready to serve.

Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and serve it hot with paratha or roti or puri.

To make it more tastier, serve it with yogurt or curd.
