In today’s section I am going to share with you a very interesting and delicious South Indian dip or chutney recipe for beginners that can be served with idli and dosa also this is famous all over in India. The main base of this chutney is Coconut as coconut is widely grown in the coastal states of South India. It is one of the most basic ingredient used in South Indian cuisine.
Chutney plays a very important role in Indian cuisine despite the fact that it can be easily tucked away in any corner of the plate. Chutney acts as an appetizer and also some are good for digestion. Today’s chutney is full of coconut and some basic spices. This is one of the most essential side dip that is served with South Indian breakfast like rava idli, dosa and medu vada. In today’s post I am going to share an easy and basic recipe of coconut chutney that I am making for decades now and still do. There are many ways in which coconut chutney can be made by using a mix of different herbs and spices, but coconut is the most essential ingredients in it. So lets start the recipe.
Necessary Ingredients We Required
- Coconut = 1 cup, grated
- Chana dal = 2 tbsp, roasted
- Fresh coriander = few leaves
- fresh mint = few leaves
- Ginger = 1 inch piece
- Garlic = 2 cloves
- Green chilies = 2 nos.
- Tamarind = a very small, Ball sized
- Salt = to taste
- Water = 1 cup
- Oil = 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds = 1 tsp
- Urad dal = 1 tsp
- Dried red chili = 1 no.
- Curry leaves = 3 to 4
Method Of Making Idli Chutney
Take a mixer grinder jar and in it add grated coconut, chana dal, tamarind, salt, ginger, garlic, fresh coriander and mint leaves, green chilies and water. Grind it into a fine smooth paste.
Now transfer the paste into a bowl.
Take a small pan, heat some oil and in it add mustard seeds, urad dal, dried red chilies, curry leaves and saute it for a while.
Temper it on the chutney and mix it well.
Your Idli Chutney is now done. Enjoy it with idli and dosa.
