Dilkush Recipe This is a popular South Indian sweet bread which is stuffed with coconut and tutti frutti. It is like a large bun with stuffing and the taste is just lip smacking. Dilkush means “Happy Heart” and yup, you will surely happy to have this bread as a dessert or as a snack as well. It is also known as dil pasand. Usually it is a round bread by at the time of serving, it is cut into triangular slices. They are sold in slices or as a whole pastry too. I consider it to be the best bun as I liked it a lot since my childhood. The stuffing of tutti frutti and coconut makes it more delicious but to embrace it taste more, I also prefer to add some chopped nuts in it. But if you don’t like nuts then you can totally skip them. Here Let’s know how to make it.
Necessary Ingredients Required For Dilkush Recipe
For Dough
- Milk = 1/2 cup, warm
- Sugar = 2 tbsp
- Dry yeast = 1/2 tbsp
- All purpose flour = 2 cups
- Salt = 1/4 tsp
- Oil = 2 tbsp
For Filling
- Desiccated Coconut = 1 cup
- Tutti frutti = 1/2 cup
- Green cardamom powder = 1/2 tsp
- Almonds = 1 tbsp, finely chopped
- Cashews = 1 tbsp, finely chopped
- Powdered sugar = 1/2 cup
- Butter = 4 tbsp, melted
- Sesame seeds = 1 tsp
Instructions For Kneading Dough
Step 1
Firstly in a mixing bowl, add warm milk and dry yeast. Mix well and also add sugar and oil in it. Give it a stir and keep aside to activate the yeast.
Step 2
Once yeast gets activated, add salt and all purpose flour in it and knead a smooth and fine dough from it by adding more milk if required.
Step 2
Now cover the dough and by greasing some oil and keep it aside to rest for about 2 hours by covering it with cling wrap or cloth.
For Making Filling
Step 1
In a mixing bowl, add chopped almonds and cashews in it and also add desiccated coconut, tutti frutti, green cardamom powder, powdered sugar and some chopped cherries.
Step 2
Mix all the ingredients well.
Step 3
Then add butter in it and mix well so that stuffing gets moist. Stuffing id ready.
Making Of Dilkush
Step 1
After 2 hours, remove the cling or cloth and gently punch on the dough.
Step 2
Further divide the dough into two equal portions and tuck them. Now take one part and start rolling it by using rolling pin and dust some flour on a surface. Roll both the dough and keep aside.
Step 3
On one side of flatten dough, grease some butter and then spread the prepared stuffing evenly on it.
Step 4
Then put the other flatten dough to cover the stuffing and gently press its sides to close it.
Step 5
Brush some milk on the upper side and sprinkle some sesame seeds.
Step 6
Pre heat the oven for 20 minutes at 180 degree celsius and then add this bread to it. Bake it for 30 minutes at 180 degree celsius.
Step 7
Once it is done, take it out, grease some butter on the top and keep aside for cooling.
Finally, your delicious dilkush recipe is now ready. Cut it into pieces and serve. Enjoy.
