Necessary Ingredients Required For Chane Ki Dal Mangochi

  • Split chickpea = 2 cups, soaked for 4 to 5 hours
  • Ginger and garlic paste = 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder = 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder = 1/2 tsp
  • Roasted cumin powder = 1/2 tsp
  • Salt = as per taste
  • Baking soda = 2 pinch

For Gravy

  • Onion = 2
  • Ginger and garlic paste = 2 tsp
  • Green chilies = 2
  • Red chili powder = 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder = 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder = 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder = 1/2 tsp
  • Salt = as per taste
  • Cumin seeds = 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida = 2 pinch
  • Tomato (optional) = 2
  • Oil = as required

Instructions For Making Mangochi

Step 1

Firstly, drain off all the water from the soaked dal, then put it in a blender jar and blend it to make a smooth paste. Do not add water while blending it.

Step 2

Now transfer this paste to a mixing bowl, add ginger and garlic paste, red chili powder, garam masala powder, roasted cumin powder, salt and baking soda. Mix all the ingredients well.

Step 3

Now take a large size vessel, add water in it and put it on a lame for boiling.

Step 4

Take a steel siever or you can simply take a steamer, grease it with oil and drop small balls on it of the prepared paste.

Step 5

Put this steamer on a boiling water and cover the lid. Let the mangochi steamed for about 12 to 15 minutes.

Step 6

For Gravy

Peel off the onions and roughly chop them. Then add these chopped onions to the blender jar and also add washed green chilies in it. Add a dash of water and then blend it to make a smooth paste from it.

Step 7

In a wok, add oil and heat it up. Once oil gets heated, add cumin seeds and asafoetida in it. Let the, splutter for few seconds.

Step 8

Then add the prepared paste of onions in it and cook them for a minute, then add ginger and garlic paste in it and saute till the raw smell disappears.

Step 9

Further add tomatoes, red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt in it. Mix well all the spices.

Step 10

Cook the gravy till oil oozes from it on a medium flame.

Step 11

Till then mangochi is ready after steaming. Take a pan, add 2 tbsp of oil in it and fry the steamed mangochi. Stir fry them for a minute.

Step 12

In gravy, when oil oozes from it, add 2 cups of water in it and bring it to a boil. Then add the fried mangochi in the gravy.

Step 13

After a boil in mangochi, turn the flame low and cover the lid. Let it cook for 5 minutes.

Furthermore after the mentioned time, turn the flame off and add some chopped coriander leaves.

Finally, chane ki dal mangochi is now ready to serve. Serve it hot with naan, chapati or paratha.
