Besan Chilla Recipe | How to Make Besan Cheela/Chilla

About the recipe- Besan chilla or besan cheela are simple spiced gram flour pan cakes. Besan chilla is a quick and easy recipe to make in breakfast and is also consider as a perfect evening snack. Hey guys!!! Welcome back to the zayka recipe’s English website. So today I am going to share the recipe of cheela which is made almost all the houses of India. Most of the people also called it as veg omelette as it does not contain egg. I like to eat chilla in breakfast as it is healthy and helps to full my tummy for the whole day. I am making this by adding chopped onions and tomatoes in it because it makes its taste more good. So let’s know it’s recipe.

Necessary Ingredients Required For Besan Chilla

  • Gram flour or besan = 1 cup
  • Onion = 1, finely chopped in cubes
  • Tomato = 1, small size, finely chopped
  • Green chili = 2, finely chopped
  • Carom seeds or ajwain = 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin powder = 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder = 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder = 1/4 tsp
  • Salt = as per taste
  • Water = as required or 1/3 cup
  • Oil = to cook
  • Coriander leaves = 1/2 tsp, finely chopped

Method To Make It In Easy Steps

Step 1

Take a bowl, add gram flour in it and then add all dry ingredients like salt, cumin powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder and carom seeds.

Step 2

Mix all the ingredients well and then add water little by little into it to make its batter.

Step 3

Make sure that the cheela batter must be lumps free. Stir it well for lumps free and mix it well.

Step 4

Now add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies and coriander. Mix them well and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Now heat a flat pan, pour some oil in it and spread it on all over the pan.

Step 6

Now take a ladle full of batter and pour the batter on a pan. Gently spread this batter with the help of back of the ladle.

Step 7

Spread it lightly and gently so that chilla does not break.

Step 8

Cook chilla on a low flame until its top begins to look cooked.

Step 9

Now spread some oil on the top of it and spread it.

Step 10

Cook it until its base turn into light golden.

Step 11

Now flip it and cook it from the other side. Cook this side until you see golden spots on besan cheela.

Your besan cheela is ready. Fold it and serve it hot with green chutney or tomato ketchup.
