Basbousa Recipe | Egyptian Cake Recipe | Semolina Cake

Basbousa Recipe This is an easy and delicious Egyptian cake recipe which is made with semolina, sugar, coconut powder and milk. This is also similar to the semolina cake as well. You can serve this cake as a dessert as it is delicious and healthy too because it does not contain any fine flour. So let’s know how to make it.

Necessary Ingredients Required For Basbousa Recipe

  • Semolina (rava/suji) = 1.5 cup, fine
  • Powdered sugar = 3/4 cup
  • Butter = 1/2 cup
  • Coconut powder = 3/4 cup
  • Milk = 1.5 cup
  • Baking powder = 1.5 tsp
  • Vanilla essence = 1.5 tsp

For Sugar Syrup

  • Sugar = 3/4 cup
  • Water = 3/4 cup
  • Lemon juice = 2 tsp
  • Rose water = 2 tsp

Instructions For Making It

Step 1

Firstly, take a mixing bowl and add semolina in it. Then add powdered sugar and melted butter in it. Mix all the ingredients well till they looks evenly mixed.

Step 2

Now add desiccated coconut powder and milk in it and mix well to combine everything even.

Step 3

Further add baking powder and vanilla essence in it and mix well into a bind mixture. Keep it aside for about 10 minutes.

Step 4

Pre heat the oven at 180 degree celsius for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Now take a mould and grease it with butter or oil from all the sides and then spread some semolina on it.

Step 6

Then pour the mixture into the mould and spread it evenly and make cuts on it as per your required shapes.

Step 9

Furthermore, add almonds on the top and press it slightly so that they stuck in it.

Step 10

Put this mould into a pre heat oven and and bake it for about 20 to 25 minutes.

Step 11

Till it is baked, let’s make sugar syrup. For this, take a pan, add sugar and water in it and put it on a flame.

Step 12

Once sugar melts completely, add lemon juice in it and mix well. This will prevent to form bubbles in it. We do not have to make string syrup, just melt the sugar in it.

Step 13

After baking of basbousa, take it out from the oven and then pour this syrup on it when the cake it hot so that it will absorb the syrup.

Finally, your delicious basbousa is now ready to serve. Serve it ones it cools and enjoy.
