Amla pickle is one of the delicious pickle preferred by most of the Indians. You can also purchase it from the grocery store but the home made pickle is more natural than the ready made one. Amla is also known as Indian gooseberry. In winters, you can easily buy it from the local market. So let’s know how to make it at home.
Required ingredients for Amla pickle-
- Indian gooseberry = 1/2 kg
- Red chili powder = 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder = 2 tsp
- Fennel seeds powder = 2 tsp
- Yellow mustard seeds = 4 tsp (grind granulated)
- Carom seeds (ajwain) = 1 tsp
- Asafoetida = 1/4 tsp
- Salt = as per taste
- Mustard oil = 200 gm
How to make amla pickle
Wash the Indian gooseberry (amla) well and now take a pan, pour 4 cups water in it and add amla in it.
When a boil comes into it, turn the flame low. Boil the amla until it softens.
When the amla becomes soft, switch of the flame and strain it. Let it become cool.
After cooling, cut it into pieces and remove the seeds from it.
Take a deep fry pan, pour oil in it and heat it well because we have to vanish its raw smell. After heating up of oil, turn off the flame.
Now add asafoetida, carom seeds (ajwain) and mustard seeds in the oil. Cook it by stirring it and then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, feenel seeds powder and salt. Mix them well.
Now in the mixture, add chopped and boiled amla in it and mix it well.
Sour and spicy amla pickle is ready.
Enjoy it with Indian meal and also taste it with parathas.
